Prevent Damage

From the Start!

Of all coloring methods, bleaching is potentially the most damaging, and therefore should ideally always be done by a professional. It’s impossible to make your hair a lighter shade without the help of a bleaching agent – AKA ‘oxidizing agents’; These agents penetrate the cuticle and dissolve melanin resulting in a lighter color. Hydrogen peroxide is a commonly used bleaching agent which can, with repeated use, permanently raise the cuticle scales of your hair. This causes hair to feel dry, brittle, and damaged. The lightening effect of peroxide is limited so persulfate salts (another bleaching agent) are added to increase lift. However, this can cause scalp irritation and also break the disulfide bonds in your cortex which are crucial to the strength of your hair. To mitigate these issues, we use a combination of Brazilian B3 Bonder and K18. B3 Bonder prevents the disulfide bonds in your hair from breaking and actually relinks broken bonds which strengthens your hair. K18 is a biotech-developed peptide that mimics hair's structure to reverse damage by reconnecting polypeptide chains that are affected during bleaching! Clean Hair Color FAQs

What Exactly Is Clean Hair Color?

When I use the term “clean hair color” I’m referring to hair color made with organic botanicals and less chemicals. Specifically brands like Oway, O&M, and Davines' demi line “View”. These hair color brands are formulated with least amount of synthetic chemicals and the maximum amount of organic botanical ingredients.

What’s In And Not In Clean Hair Color?

  • 100% Ammonia Free

  • PEG/PPG Free

  • Resorcinol Free

  • Vegan

  • Cruelty Free

  • Gluten Free

  • Contains Fair Trade and biodynamic Ingredients.

  • Gentle for the even the most sensitive of scalps.

What Experience Should I Expect?

You can expect scalp comfort with virtually no itchiness and irritation. You’ll get the same level of gray coverage as you would with conventional hair color and find the color is just as durable! These clean color formulas put less stress on hair whilst ultimately improving the hair's condition. Your hair is left shiny and soft with no cuticle damage.

Does 100% Natural Hair Color Exist?

No. At this time, in order to actually “dye” your hair, hair-color needs to contain four ingredients: 1) Oxidative dyes to pigment the hair. 2) Antioxidants to keep the dyes from reacting before they’re used. 3) An alkalinizer such as MEA to open the cuticle and allow the dye to penetrate and actually color your hair. 4) Hydrogen peroxide to activate the chemical reaction and dissolve natural melanin. Alas, none of these are organic or natural and alternatives have yet to be found.

Note: The only 100% natural hair color is certain brands of henna. However, using henna on the hair isn’t always suitable for grey coverage and metallic salts can cause the hair to feel dry and damaged over time. Also, henna is extremely durable and cannot but easily removed from the hair; if henna users ever try to lighten their locks, it can cause a chemical reaction which poses serious risks to health of the hair.
